Based on experience in the operation and long-term tests, the company ZKL dedicate to the development of new design of tapered roller units for rail vehicles used in passenger railway and tram transport. There has been already signed a new supply contract of modified bearings PLC 810-15.A.1 (TBU133x210) for trams. Also the new variant of bearing PLC 810-13.B.1 (TBU130x230) was successful in testing in VÚŽ in Prague. The proper function of bearings was verified for trains with the speed up to 200 km / h with a smaller diameter of wheels. This information confirms previous test results from last year, which were made with bearing housing of Škoda vehicle of the series 071 / 971. The last test was conducted in bearing housings of electric units Flirt, which were provided by Stadler company for testing.
Above all the bearings were tested at the maximum test speed frequency 28.2 s-1. This test rotational speed was achieved after the implementation of adjustment at the test station, where the maximum test speed of rotation was reached of about 26 s-1 by then. For comparison of the test conditions with real operation may help for example the operating frequency of rotation of the same bearing in the power unit Citi Elephant, which reaches 13.5 s-1 at a speed of 140 km / h. This means that at the same rotational speed which was used during the test the train would go on rails at the speed over 290 km / h!
Along with the contract to bearings of new trams the results of this test represent another important reference for the extension of the use of ZKL tapered roller units in rail vehicles. Both bearings will be exposed at the trade fair Czech Raildays 2013 in Ostrava.
