World crude steel production in June up 1.9% on 2012: worldsteel

Crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association was 132 million mt in June, up 1.9% year-on-year, worldsteel said Monday.

Average daily production of 4.38 million mt was little unchanged from May. The industry's capacity-use rate declined to 79.2% in June from 79.6% in May, while compared with June 2012 it was 1.5 percentage points lower.

Total crude steel production for the first half of this year was 789.8 million mt, up 2% year-on-year. Output in Asia rose 5.5%, with other regions reporting falls. First-half production declined 5.8% in North America, 5.1% in the EU, 4.6% in South America, and 3% in the CIS.
