Vestas to sign a record-setting wind energy deal with Egypt

Danish wind giant Vestas is expected to sign a record deal with Egypt within the next couple of days for wind turbines with the potential to generate 2.2 GW of power. The deal is potentially worth over 15 billion kroner.

The climate minster, Lars Christian Lilleholt, is in Egypt trying to help broker the deal.

Egypt is transitioning towards more renewable energy. The goal is to install a capacity of seven GW by the end of 2022 – a tenfold increase on what is in the country currently.

“Denmark is in a strong position to help with the green transition, and Vestas appreciates the government’s help to Danish companies selling sustainable energy solutions in new markets,” said Vestas managing director Anders Runevad.

Denmark sees Egypt as a major, rapidly expanding market, and Lilleholt will be meeting with other Danish companies active in Egypt.

“As minister, I can help to open doors and give a boost to Danish businesses, so we can strengthen exports, boost growth and create Danish workplaces,” he said.
