Vestas Nabs 120MW In Morocco

Vestas has confirmed an order to supply turbines to the 120MW Khalladi wind farm in northern Morocco.

The Danish manufacturer will install 40 V90-3MW units at the project near Tangiers developed by Acwa Power.

Turbines will be delivered in the second quarter of next year and will start operating in the fourth.

The contract also comprises a 20-year active output management service agreement, Vestas said.

The facility will be the first clean energy project financed by the EBRD in Morocco that allows private producers to sell electricity through power purchase agreements to industrial off-takers.

It will also be co-financed by local bank BMCE and Argan Infrastructure Fund.

Vestas has recently established a local presence in Casablanca to participate in Morocco’s plan to boost wind power to around 20% of its energy mix by 2020.

The company has already installed or is building more than 900MW around Africa.

“Being Vestas’ first order in Morocco since 2000 this project represents a big step forward for us, as we continue to work hard to build a stronger presence in the country and contribute to the development of the growing Moroccan wind industry,” Vestas Mediterranean president Marco Graziano said.
