Ultracomp Bearings Excel in Rotary Applications

Ultracomp bearings from Tristar Plastics have been selected by a manufacturer of military technology for use on a ground-based military device.

The client contacted Tristar with the need to replace a metal rolling insert on a drum shaft.

The application posed a unique challenge since the drum is on a device that requires frequent and intensive washdowns because it is used to process biological waste products.

The client cited how its current metal bearings were not well suited to this application due to the need for constant maintenance as well as prohibitive replacement cost.

The manufacturer also complained that order fulfilment time - which averaged anywhere between four to five months - was unacceptable.

Tristar Plastics' in-house experts reviewed the mission objectives and proposed Ultracomp 16in spherical bearings to replace the metal rolling element.

Ultracomp bearings are built from synthetic resins and are therefore very durable and excel in rotary applications, according to Tristar.

They also require no lubrication and can withstand frequent washdowns, saving on overall maintenance costs.

The team was able to deliver a turnkey assembly for the client in three weeks.
