Timken's aerospace business' plant in Keene, New Hampshire, has been recommended for an upgrade in certification from ISO9001:1994 to ISO9001:2000/AS9100A Standard. TUV America Inc., a technical service company for the industry, product and transport sectors, made the recommendation.
ISO9001 is an international standard that defines the requirements for product and service quality assurance. The AS9100A Standard takes the ISO standard to a higher level to satisfy specific requirements of the aerospace industry, which includes many of its customers.
Each of Timken's plants have been certified to one or more of the following: ISO9001:2000, QS9000, TS16949, AS9100, M1003 or Boeing's D19000. Timken's plants use these certifications as a foundation to establishing strong quality systems that exceed industry standards and maintain the company's reputation for being at the pinnacle of quality and performance.
"This is a significant achievement for our facility and our success can be directly related to the support and participation by all associates at the plant," said Deborah F. Bailey, manager, quality systems.
The 195,000-square-foot Keene facility, which opened in 1941, manufactures high-precision ball bearings, assemblies and services for the aerospace, medical, dental, space flight, semi-conductor, X-ray and precision industrial markets
