Timken Places Equipment Order for Bar Mill Project

Timken Places Equipment Order for Bar Mill Project

The Timken Co. has chosen SMS Meer to supply the major equipment for its $60-million rolling mill expansion at the Harrison steel plant in Canton, OH. The project, announced in January, will allow the steel and bearings manufacture to produce bars down to 1-in. diameter.

SMS Meer will design and install a sizing mill; a three-roll, hydraulic roll-gap adjustment system; and a range of inspection and finishing equipment. The project is on target for completion in mid-2008.

Tom Moline, Timken's v.p. - steel manufacturing, stated: "Our targeted customers have expressed strong interest in the increased capability this expansion project represents as we continue to differentiate our steel production. Some of these special bar quality steels are not readily available in the United States, and this expansion will enable us to supply our customers with this crucial product."
