The hunt for the title hat-trick begins next weekend (April 16) for Porsche and partner Schaeffler with the start of the 2017 World Endurance Championship (WEC) in Silverstone.
Porsche and Schaeffler line up together for already the fourth year in the sports car world championship. In 2015 and 2016, the German premium automotive brand with the support of the technology group celebrated title wins in the driver and manufacturer rankings.
The WEC is regarded in the motorsport scene as particularly challenging and at the same time an ideal test laboratory for automotive manufacturer and supplier innovations. As a pioneer in the development of hybrid systems for production vehicles, the WEC is also an ideal platform for Schaeffler to show how the technology transfer between the race track and the road functions. Porsche will once again contest this season with two 919 Hybrid cars in the top-tier LMP1 class. The current generation of the sports car prototype was completely revised compared to the previous model.
The 6-hour race on the 5.901 kilometer-long Silverstone Circuit marks the first of a total of nine season races around the world. The highlight of the calendar is the 24-hour race at Le Mans in France (June 17–18). Porsche has won the most significant sports car race in the world a record 18 times, including together with Schaeffler in 2015 and 2016. Schaeffler and Porsche’s home race will take place on July 16 at the Nürburgring.
