A victory and a second place, plus the lead of the drivers’ and teams’ standings: The two races that have opened the exciting energy-packed FIA Formula E Championship could hardly have gone any better for Team ABT and Technology Partner Schaeffler. Now, on December 13, the third competition of the world’s first racing series for fully electric single-seater race cars is on the agenda. A city street circuit along the Punta del Este coastline will be the venue of the one-day event (race start: 19.00, CET, broadcast live on Sky). The sophisticated ‘Monaco of Uruguay’ is located on the Atlantic coast, 140 kilometers east of the capital Montevideo.
31 laps on the 2,808 meter long circuit bristling with 20 turns are awaiting leader of the standings Lucas di Grassi, his ABT team-mate Daniel Abt and the 18 competitors. The full-throttle distance on the track featuring a mix of tight chicanes and longer straights amounts to 68 percent. “It’s going to be a tough race,” di Grassi is sure and promises, “We’re going to take our cars to the limit.”
While Formula E is conquering new territory with its round in Uruguay, Schaeffler has been present on the South American continent for six decades. The technology corporation shows its colors with locations of its own in six countries. In Venezuela, Columbia, Peru, Chile and Argentina, Schaeffler operates sales and support branches, and in Brazil, the continent’s largest market, Schaeffler additionally produces components and systems for the Automotive and Industry sectors.
