Taiwan's Machinery Exports Rise in First Seven Months
Taiwan's machinery exports maintained a growing trend during January to July this year while imports dropped slightly, according to statistics from Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI).
In January to July, Taiwan's machinery exports totaled US$8.1584 billion, up 5 .8% from the same period last year. Among all categories, machine tools and components sectors demonstrated the strongest growth rate, while industrial machinery reported a decrease.
The export performance of the Taiwanese machinery industry is expected to be influenced by the fluctuating exchange rate of the US dollar against the New Taiwan dollar.
Domestic machinery investment atmosphere was, on the contrary, not high. Demand for imported high-tech equipment even saw a month-by-month decrease in the past few months. The total machinery imports from January to July were US$10.3971 billion, down 8.1% from the same period last year.
