Taiwan Becomes World's Largest VMC Producer
With an annual output of over 25,000 units in 2007, Taiwan has grown to be the largest vertical machining center (VMC) producer.
That represents a 20% growth from 2006, according to Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI) statistics.
Of that sum, 3,611 units of VMCs worth US$247 million were shipped to Mainland China.
Japan shipped 5,306 units of VMCs worth US$405 million to Mainland China in 2007, ahead of Taiwan, which was followed by South Korea,
Germany, the US, Switzerland, and Italy.
In total, 11,040 units of VMCs worth US$843 million were shipped to Mainland China in 2007, which was a year in which China bought more VMCs than any other kind of machine tools.
