AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 24, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Superconductor Technologies Inc. (STI) (SCON), a world leader in the development and production of high temperature superconducting (HTS) materials and associated technologies, will exhibit its Conductus(R) HTS wire at the International Workshop on Coated Conductors for Applications (CCA) in Jeju, Korea from November 30th-December 3rd.
STI will present a poster session highlighting customer test data on its Conductus wire illustrating recently announced critical current of 730 Amps/cm at 77K in self-field and showing improved low-temperature characteristics in higher magnetic fields. The presentation will feature commentary from respected researchers such as Anup Patel, the University of Cambridge, who stated, "The RCE-CDR process utilized in STI's Conductus wire shows exceptional promise in providing extremely uniform wide tapes, up to 10cm x 10cm, for creating stacks of superconducting plates that are used for high-field magnetics and superconducting bearings."
"At CCA, we will showcase the effectiveness of our proprietary RCE-CDR process to produce Conductus wire with superlative performance," said Adam Shelton, STI's VP of Marketing and Product Line Management. "As the industry works to commercialize superconducting devices, many of our existing and potential customers are looking to take advantage of better wire performance to improve the value proposition of their superconducting products. They hope to accomplish this by reducing size and weight, or substantially enhancing the functionality of the device. Projects currently undergoing customer testing require a large quantity of superconducting wire per device, ranging from hundreds of meters for a small magnet to hundreds of thousands of meters for a medium size transmission power cable project. In order to meet this forecasted demand, STI is transitioning from our pilot RCE system to our new one kilometer reactive co-evaporation system (RCE-1000). We look forward to meeting with industry leading companies, research laboratories and institutions to discuss STI's latest developments in Conductus wire for use in superconducting devices."
