SKF Sverige AB has entered into an agreement which transfers the cage production in Gothenburg to the Japanese component manufacturer Nakanishi Metal Works CO., Ltd. (NKC).
The factory is located in SKF's production area in Gothenburg and has 130 employees.
- This sale is part of the Group's long-term strategy of selling off component manufacturing which doesn't belong to the core business. We see it as very positive that a recognised supplier is taking over the cage manufacturing in Gothenburg and is planning to invest in and develop the operation, says Eva Karlsson, Managing Director SKF Sverige AB.
NKC was founded in 1924 and is a world leader in cage manufacturing and pressed steel components, as well as plastic and rubber processing. SKF declared NKC its best supplier of 2007.
Cage manufacturing in Gothenburg will constitute a manufacturing and sales base in Europe for NKC's European customers. The company intends to continue manufacturing products in the existing premises and will also continue to supply SKF's production in Gothenburg and elsewhere.
SKF in Gothenburg produces spherical roller bearings. The cage is the component in the bearing that keeps the rollers in place between the inner and outer rings.
The cage factory in Gothenburg manufactures cages for SKF's production units in Gothenburg, Luton (UK), Hanover (USA), Nilai (Malaysia) and Schweinfurt (Germany).
