Gothenburg, November 28: SKF announces that SKF S2M Magnetic Bearing have been selected to be used in offshore upstream centrifugal compressors for the Total Martin Linge development in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea gas field. Total’s project is the development of the former Hild field, and comprises a fixed production platform with an associated floating storage and offloading unit (FSO), a 24’’ gas export pipe and an offshore control centre in Stavanger. SKF S2M magnetic bearings will equip five stand-alone compressors and four high speed motors.
"We are very pleased to be involved in this major contract, and proud that Total has chosen SKF S2M Magnetic Bearing systems, not only for their clear technological advantages but also for their contribution to meeting the project guidelines in terms of low maintenance and manning levels. SKF’s S2M non-contact bearing technology has been proven to provide reliable, trouble-free running in demanding environments with long periods between maintenance”, says Vincent Megret, Unit Director, SKF Magnetic Mechatronics, SAS.
Vincent continued, “The bearings’ small footprint, oil-free frictionless running and extended maintenance intervals combined with S2M’s long-standing experience and expertise in oil and gas made these bearings the preferred component in this and numerous other centrifugal compressor projects.”
Oil and Gas production is expected to commence in 2016.
