MacPherson suspension bearing unit
SKF has redeveloped its MacPherson suspension bearing unit, which is suitable for a range of automotive applications.
The new bearing unit is designed to offer an even greater operating life, helping to withstand higher levels of severe driving conditions and to improve the reliability of suspension systems.
According to the company, the MacPherson unit is able to support high loads, withstand severe pollution and improve long-term reliability.
Key features and benefits:
The bearing unit features a new seal design that is said to provide excellent protection against external pollution, 50 per cent less water content when tested against a standard seal and 220 per cent less frictional torque.
A new ball set increases radial load capacity by 20 per cent while reducing radial clearance by 40 per cent.
A metallic spring seat is over-moulded inside a lower polymer housing and increases resistance to deformation by up to 50 per cent and stress levels by around eight per cent on composite components.
