SKF USA Inc. yesterday announced it would be a co-sponsor of a Habitat for Humanity project that will provide decent, affordable shelter for a low-income family in North Hills, a suburb just north of Philadelphia.
To underscore the commitment, Poul Jeppesen, President and CEO of SKF USA, presented a check in the amount of $30,000 to Marianne Albanese, the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, at a ceremony at SKF USA headquarters in Lansdale.
"We are very pleased to make this contribution to Habitat for Humanity and its honorable mission," Jeppesen said. "We at SKF believe very strongly that giving back to our communities is integral to our company's processes and operations and way of doing business."
In addition to the financial support, SKF will sponsor approximately a week's worth of volunteer build days lasting from April into June, when the project is scheduled for completion. It is anticipated that there will be opportunities for approximately 20 volunteers to take part on each build day, depending on construction needs and site supervisor availability.
Along with the presentation ceremony, SKF employees had the opportunity to attend two information sessions at SKF headquarters, where they could meet with representatives from Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, PA, and learn more about the organization, the North Hills construction project, as well as other projects that Habitat for Humanity has sponsored in the past.
About Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County
The mission of Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County (HFHMC) is to eliminate poverty housing. In partnership with caring individuals and organizations, Habitat constructs simple, decent, affordable homes and empowers hardworking, low-income families to become homeowners by providing no-interest mortgages.
Habitat families build equity, gain stability, and enhance our county's quality of life. Habitat has built more than 400,000 homes around the world, providing simple, decent and affordable shelter for more than 2 million people. Since 1989, the Montgomery County affiliate has sought to eliminate poverty housing in the local community by offering "a hand up, not a hand out" to hardworking families who otherwise would be unable to experience the dream of owning their own home. In its 22-year history, HFHMC has completed 51 homes, which have housed 184 individuals (including 124 children) in the county and were sold to qualified families based on the principles of no-interest and no-profit.
