On the occasion of SIMA 2009, one of the most important international agricultural exhibitions, SKF displays a technological innovation: the SKF Electronic Parking Brake for tractors and agricultural vehicles.
The new T7000 Auto Command tractor of New Holland Agriculture, equipped with the SKF Electronic Parking Brake will be launched. The system adopted by New Holland is a hybrid solution based on a mechanical emergency brake and a SKF smart electro-mechanical actuator patented acting on the transmission parking brake.
The SKF Electronic Parking Brake is more than just a parking system. It has been designed to assure high reliability for the operators and help the driver in various driving conditions. It features smart functions like the Automatic Apply, which operates when the key is off and the driver leaves his seat, the Hill Holder and the Drive Away, all of which relieve the driver of having to pull a force of 40 kg to apply a manual brake contributing to much increased comfort, even on hilly ground.

In addition, the SKF Electronic Parking Brake offers environmental benefits with a reduction of energy consumption, keeping up with the long-established tradition of environmental care of the SKF.
The SKF Electronic Parking Brake has been developed in SKF Italy where the first production line is operative since September 2008.
Since the 1970's SKF has played a pioneering role in mechatronics, with several projects into aeronautics delivering the first Fly-by-Wire systems for throttle control to Airbus in 1980's. More recently in the automotive segment SKF undertook a number of important projects, including the Drive-by-Wire Filo and Novanta concept cars.
