SKF Introduces TKES 1 Handheld Endoscope

SKF UK has developed a handheld endoscope that is intended to allow users to assess the condition of difficult-to-access equipment simply and quickly.

The TKES 1 incorporates a 3.5in (8.9cm) LCD screen and can display and record photos and video for effective condition monitoring.

The instrument allows users to view applications in restricted spaces that cannot be seen by the naked eye.

This prevents machinery having to be taken apart for inspection, saving production downtime and maintenance resources.

A 1m-long ion tube, incorporating a miniature camera and variable light-emitting-diode (LED) lighting, provides a clear 67-degree field of view for use in restricted spaces.

The company claims that the unit's high-quality optical technology and LCD screen provide a superior resolution image to fibre-optic-type endoscopes.

The screen is protected by oil- and scratch-resistant tempered glass, making it suitable for everyday use in industrial environments.

Both still and video images can be viewed on the device or a TV screen, stored and later transferred to a PC for analysis.

A 1Gb SD memory card is provided with the TKES 1, which can store up to 30,000 photos or four to five hours of video.

Recorded images and video can be transferred to a PC using the USB cable supplied, with no special software required for most Microsoft Windows operating systems.

The TKES 1 can be used as a first-line inspection tool in a range of industrial sectors, including automotive, aerospace, HVAC, marine, petrochemical and power generation.
