SKF Canada to Celebrate 90th Anniversary in July
On July 20th, 1917, the Canadian SKF Company Limited was officially formed. That name was later changed to SKF Canada Limited. Prior to this time SKF bearings were sold in Canada through a representative, from 1910 until 1917.
This time period saw tremendous growth for the SKF Group based upon the self-aligning ball bearing developed by Sven Wingquist (the founder of SKF) that was initially invented in 1907. SKF sales activity also quickly grew across Canada with local technical sales representation being the cornerstone of that growth.
Although the self-aligning ball bearing was a tremendous invention, it was in 1919 that SKF invented the spherical roller bearing when demand for heavy-duty operation, coupled with self-aligning properties, led to the use of rollers in place of balls.
Today, SKF is a supplier of products, customer solutions and services in the business of rolling bearings, industrial sealing solutions, mechatronics, services and lubrication systems.
