Shaft Seal Won't do the Twist
Carcoseal has developed a rotary shaft seal with a novel profile specifically designed for the difficult working conditions experienced in heavy industry, such as rolling mills. The ATLMP - which stands for anti twist lip molla (spring) protetta (protected) - has been developed to assist with problems experienced in rolling mills.
When the refurbished roll is being fitted on to the chock, a substantial number of oil seals are damaged. The lip then is unable to seal and the spring can be damaged and come out of the groove and get into the bearing. In particular the seal may be damaged because the lip is twisted or the spring may be damaged and displaced from its groove.
The special shape of the ATLMP is designed to prevent twisting back and to work as a shock absorber when the roll crashes against the lip.
The lip has a big chamfer to ease roll fitting and the spring is protected and closed into the groove. The seal is usually supplied as a version with lubrication grooves to have lubricant applied between a pair of oil seals, fitted in tandem or back to back.
