On November 13 und 14, the absolute highlight of the 2014 SCORE World Desert Championship will take place. In the legendary Baja 1000, one of the world’s longest and toughest auto and motorcycle races, more than 200 participants will be battling for victory in Mexico. Schaeffler brand ambassador Armin Schwarz with grid position seven has clinched a good starting base for the grueling off-road rally. More than 2,000 kilometers have to be covered – a distance almost equating to the one between Herzogenaurach and Moscow. Schwarz will be contesting the tradition-steeped event for the eighth time in total and in the last race with his long-standing team-mate Martin Christensen is aiming for a top position.
Schaeffler has been active in Mexico since 1970. In Puebla, the first plant, which manufactures products of the LuK brand, was launched in the mid-nineteen-seventies. In 1981, a branch followed in Mexico City, where the Schaeffler Automotive Aftermarket set up its operations. In total, Schaeffler employs around 2,200 people in Mexico. In 2008, Schaeffler inaugurated the manufacturing site in Irapuato, which supplies conventional rolling bearings and products for engine systems and suspension applications to customers in the automotive industry, industrial companies and suppliers in Mexico and across North America – in keeping with Schaeffler’s guiding principle ‘In the region – for the region.’
