Manufacturers of power transmission products in Canada saw sales increase while U.S. makers had a drop in sales in June, according to recent sales data released by the Power Transmission Distributors Association (PTDA) in Chicago.
Sales of bearings, drives, motors, gears and other power transmission products at U.S. manufacturers fell an average 2.8% in June when compared to May. Sales in June were down 32.9% compared to the same period last year. Orders in June decreased 5.3% over May.
Canadian manufacturers' sales rose 7.6% in June over May. Compared to the same period last year, June sales were down 25%.
Three of nine product categories for U.S. manufacturers-gear products, standard industrial motors and mechanical drive systems and other PT products-posted sales gains.
Confidence in the U.S. market (as measured on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being most optimistic) is holding at a current negative position of 4.8 for the third consecutive month. Canadian confidence rose slightly by 0.1% from last month to 4.4.
