Saint-Gobain Seals and BIEGLO Co-Exhibiting at Fakuma Show to Showcase Meldin® 7000 Thermoset Polyimide Material

Garden Grove, CA, September 14, 2014 --(PR.com)-- From October 14th to 18th, in Hall B4 - Booth #4113 at the Fakuma show in Friedrichshafen, Germany, Saint-Gobain Seals and BIEGLO will be showcasing the Meldin® 7000 product (thermoset polyimide material). The Fakuma show offers a comprehensive overview of all plastics technologies, from raw materials and basic shapes, manufacturing and distribution, to injection molding and extrusion technology or thermoforming. Reaching its 23rd exhibition, with around 1,700 exhibitors and over 44,000 visitors from 119 countries, Fakuma represents the biggest event in the plastics world this year.

Since its appointment in the beginning of 2013 by Saint-Gobain Seals, BIEGLO has been responsible for distributing the Seals’ Meldin® 7000 product line in Germany and surrounding countries. The partnership has broadened Saint Gobain’s scope of customer service and availability for this product line in Europe.

John Biesterfeld, CEO of BIEGLO, said, “In many high-performance applications, metal replacement is an ongoing topic and we continue to push the borders with our portfolio of high-performance polymers. Saint-Gobain Seals’ Meldin® solution has been a very effective addition to our product range of PEEK, polyethersulfone and long-chain polyimides. Dimensional stability, chemical and temperature resistance of the Meldin® product are making applications possible in areas where no other polymer solution could be applied. We are committed to supporting Saint-Gobain Seals by making their innovative product more readily available to the German market.”

The Meldin® product line consists of the most complete range of thermoset polyimide and engineered thermoplastic materials available on the market today. These materials are available in compression or injection molded and machined components as well as basic shapes for customization and design flexibility. Among the different grades, Saint-Gobain Seals’ Meldin® 7000 series is a leading high-performance polyimide product, developed for highly demanding wear, friction and temperature applications such as thrust washers, seal rings, and bearings. These materials are also well-suited for structural component applications requiring extreme electrical or thermal insulation properties, high purity, low outgassing, and outstanding chemical resistance. Some recent application examples include: Meldin® OmniGasketTM seals for aircraft de-icing Systems, Meldin® seal rings for automotive transmissions and Meldin® bearings for launch vehicles such as Falcon 9, Altas V and Delta IV.

The Meldin® 7000 product to be featured at the Fakuma show is widely used in many different applications in the aerospace or automotive market but also as a component in industrial machinery such as hot runner nozzles in injection molding machines. When a polymer is being processed by injection molding and has a high melting point (over 250°C), not many materials on the market can be used in the application. Without melting, keeping rigidity at high temperatures and being wear resistance (even with abrasive polymers), Meldin® 7001 material is a very strong choice for the application as it provides excellent thermal insulation between the melted polymer and the metallic hot runner, preventing the melted material from sticking and facilitating color change.
