ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Not too long ago, Rockford was once known as the fastener capital of the world. Now, the hard work and growth of one local manufacturing company could bring that title back.
“It’s been quite the experience of just watching it grow.”
Ken Hopkins is a metallurgist for Rocknel Fastener and has been working with the manufacturing company since it opened in 1989. Today, the world class manufacturer of cold formed automotive and commercial fasteners celebrated 25 years in the Rockford Community.
“We overcame all of the difficulties and we came this far. So, we are really proud of the company’s 25th Anniversary.”
When Hopkins first started at Rocknel, there was only about 25 employees. Today, the 50/50 joint venture of an American and a Japanese company has over 150 employees.
"We all learned how to make mistakes and how to improve. As we would move out of having to wear that hat, we could offer the new guy some, a little bit of advice."
With those positive transitions and being able to produce a wide range of high-strength automotive and commercial fasteners, the next 25 years is looking as bright as fire for Rocknel fastener.
"I think the future is bright for Rocknel.”
