New Precision Grade Double-Row Cylindrical Roller Bearings
NTN Corporation has created a new internal design for its precision grade1) double-row cylindrical roller bearings for use in applications such as machine tool spindles. Sales of these bearings will begin in October 2004 as they are added to NTN's popular "ULTAGE Series 2)" of precision bearings.
Cylindrical roller bearings must endure higher speeds and provide greater load capacity and stiffness to help boost machine tool efficiency and accuracy. This new series of precision grade cylindrical roller bearings features a special PEEK (polyether-ether-ketone) resin retainer and an optimized internal design to maintain the traditional high load capacity and rigidity. These design features also make this line the fastest precision grade double-row cylindrical bearings available anywhere and will be standard in NTN's next generation of standard bearings sold worldwide.
NTN's new internal design (inner race - outer race - retainer - rollers) has been based on research into the high speed centrifugal force effects on the retainer. The special plastic PEEK material is lightweight, offers high rigidity, minimizes friction with the rollers, has excellent self-lubricating properties, and drastically reduces the distortion of the retainer structure that can occur during high speed operation. The comb-type retainer and custom pocket shape provide optimized air-oil flow for air-oil lubrication and superior retention and agitation of grease for applications requiring grease lubrication, resulting in excellent high speed performance and long service life.
