NTN Exhibits at the 28th Japan International Machine Tool Fair "JIMTOF2016"

NTN will run a booth at the 28th Japan International Machine Tool Fair “JIMTOF2016”.

With the theme “Navigate your future-NTN ULTAGE-”, the booth will feature precision rolling bearings for machine tools ULTAGE* series products, as well as other products and technologies for machine tools.

The unique functions and structure of Small Size High Speed Angular Contact Ball Bearing for Machine Tool Spindles, Machine Tool Main Spindle Bearing with Air Cooling Spacer of ULTAGE series products will be exhibited by simulating actual use environments. For the Lubricating Oil Supply Unit with Self-Power Generator, a simulation model that performs base oil supply and displays the supply status will be installed to demonstrate the product's mechanism. Moreover, high speed transfer and long stroke transfer achieved by the Linear Module as well as the inspection process using the Parallel Link High Speed Angle Control Equipment will be demonstrated.

Using the Bearing Technical Calculation System for Machine Tool Spindles, visitors can experience the procedure from entering data on a computer to getting the results in a short time. Also, our proprietary technologies such as products using composite materials or sensors as well as a status monitoring system will be introduced.

Small Size High Speed Angular Contact Ball Bearing for Machine Tool Spindles ULTAGE

This product has been developed using newly designed seal that retains sufficient grease within the bearing without affecting cooling or dust prevention performance using compressed air. The seal also improves the amount of grease inside and the flow of compressed air. The grease filling position and amount have also been improved to ensure a longer operating life. This product is made with a machining method that enhances the precision of the bearing raceway surface, which contributes to reducing vibrations by approximately 50% compared to conventional products.

The “air cooling spacer” using NTN's proprietary air cooling technology, which has been adopted for the bearing for machine tool main spindles, limits the difference in temperature between the inner and outer rings during high-speed rotation. This improves the high-speed rotational performance by 20% compared to the conventional products (High-speed Angular Contact Ball Bearings), and realizes a dmn value of 2.1 million to achieve the world's highest standard high-speed rotational performance with air-oil lubrication and fixed-position preload.

Lubricating Oil Supply Unit with Self-Power Generator

This product features a generator, battery, controller, etc. built in to the spacer of the outer ring adjacent to the bearing. Electrical power is generated from the temperature difference between the inner and outer rings of the bearing when the bearing is rotating, which drives a pump to supply micro amounts of lubricant to the inside of the bearing. The amount and interval of lubricant supplied is controlled via a program, which ensures reliable lubrication over a long period of time. This unit does not require any additional piping or wiring, and can be assembled on to spindles of machine tools in the same way as conventional bearings.

Precision bearings responding to the need for improved efficiency, reliability, quality and environmental responsibility for machine tools. Outstanding performance is delivered by optimization of the bearing's internal design, as well as special material and surface improvements, special grease and the use of seals on both sides.

Bearing Technical Calculation System for Machine Tool Spindles

A system that enables customers to quickly and automatically calculate characteristic values of precision rolling bearings such as main shaft rigidity and bearing operating life. With the main shaft layouts that have been increased to 13 from 10 patterns and enhanced security level, this system contributes to further shortening the development lead time of machine tools.

Linear Module

Linear motion units, for which dedicated lightweight aluminum frames have been made, are deployed with high-performance guide installed. The optimal type, size, stroke and drive method to suit applications such as work loaders of processing or assembling machinery and positioning equipment can be selected, while multiple units can be combined for a multi-axis layout in the X/Y/Z direction.

Parallel Link High Speed Angle Control Equipment

A proprietary link mechanism and newly developed drive mechanism achieve high-speed and high-precision positioning over a wide range of moving angles. When combined with a linear actuator, it can process the workpiece from various angles.

Electric Motor and Actuator

NTN has combined its core technologies of bearings and ball screw product technology with motor design technology and electrical control technology for controlling vehicles to develop the “Electric Motor and Actuator” series. The product lineup features common components and specifications, and available with variations in shape and size, which eliminates the need for individual designs for a shorter development time.

High-resolution Sensor Bearing with an Index Signal

By processing detection signals from more than one magnetic sensor placed in the IC sensor, the rotation detection capability is enhanced by maximum of 40 times and output of original point position signals is enabled. By providing the original point position signal output function, angle detection of motor rotary shaft and steering operation is enabled in addition to the conventional detection of number of revolutions and rotational direction.

Microscopic Coating Applicator with Microgeometry Measuring Function

The “3D Microgeometry measuring” function, which measures 3D coated shapes at high speed, was added to the “Desktop Type High-speed Microscopic Coating Applicator” that is capable of high-accuracy coating of microscopic droplets of a few pl (picoliter) attached at the tip of the needle at a high speed of 0.1 seconds. It enables total inspection in the manufacturing process by measuring the 3D shape of coating material immediately after application to calculate the coating area and volume.
