More Job Losses at ACL Bearing Company
The ACL bearing company will press ahead with a third round of redundancies at its Launceston plant in August.
30 jobs were cut in February and another 23 have just been axed, with 17 retrenched workers finishing up yesterday. The company blames the move on increased costs including high commodity and fuel prices, and a stronger currency.
ACL's general manager, Chris Brooks, says it has been an unsettling and difficult time but more job losses are inevitable. "We'll spend the next period of time looking at the business and continue to restructure." said Mr Brooks."In terms of the number, we did initially say 30, but we would expect that there might be some natural attrition in the period up to August."
