Siemens signed a long-term agreement with MidAmerican Energy to provide service and maintenance for 958 SWT-2.3 wind turbines at 12 wind power projects in Iowa. This represents the largest onshore wind power service agreement to date for Siemens.
Combined, these 12 wind power projects have a capacity of more than 2.2 GW, enough to provide about 665,000 average Iowa homes with renewable energy.
Under terms of the agreement, Siemens will provide about 10 years of service and maintenance for eight MidAmerican wind projects currently in operation as well as four additional projects that are scheduled to become operational during the term of the agreement.
Siemens service technicians and engineers will be working and living in and around these Iowa wind projects over the course of the agreement providing economic benefits to the region.
MidAmerican Energy and Siemens have worked together since 2008 developing significant renewable energy resources in Iowa, benefitting local utility customers and residents. Additionally, Siemens has a wind turbine blade manufacturing plant in Ft. Madison, where blades for many of the projects were manufactured.
