Mark Williams Introduces A New Pinion Support For The Ford 9-inch

The driveline of any car used in drag racing takes some serious abuse, and that can lead to additional wear on items. Rearends and their parts are particularly susceptible to damage since all of the horsepower and torque travels through the third member to the axles, and is planted to the track by them on each pass. Pinions in the Ford 9-inch that are often used in drag racing really can take a beating, but Mark Williams Enterprises, already a leader in long-lasting driveline components, has taken it to a new level.

Their new Dual Angular Contact Ball Bearing Support (P/N: 47670) will help any racer alleviate wear on their third member, increase RPM capacity, and make maintenance on their cars’ driveline easier.

The Mark Williams Enterprises Dual Angular Contact Ball Bearing Pinion Support assembly will first be introduced for Ford 9-inch third members with 9-inch and 9 ½-inch ring gears that use 28 tooth pinion splines. Additional models for 35 tooth pinion splines and 10-inch gears are available for racers who use these sizes.

This new product will cut down on friction in the driveline and generate the ability for additional RPM capacity. The assemblies come with the pre-load already set to make installing them easier. There are even upgrades available for these supports that include ceramic ball conversions and surface treatments to reduce friction.

There was some serious design work that went into this new component, according to Andrew Dickson of Mark Williams Enterprises.

“The new design allows us to put in two ball bearings, as opposed to the old style that was one ball and one taper bearing. The two ball bearings have much less rolling resistance than tapered bearing setups, so it makes everything more efficient. This allows allows the entire third member to be built using ball bearings, or a 100-percent ball bearing thirdmember, when coupled with angular contact ball bearings on the carrier/spool.”

If you’re looking for a way to beef up the driveline in your racecar, head over to Mark Williams Enterprises to checkout this great new product!
