Manufacturer moves Rhode Island offices to Pawcatuck

Stonington — Waukesha Bearings Corp., a designer and manufacturer of precision bearings for turbomachinery, is leasing more than 4,600 square feet of space at 99 Mechanic St., a Pawcatuck office building.

The company moved to the site early last month, relocating its regional offices for engineering, design and sales support from West Greenwich, R.I., according to Daniel Barber of the Northeast Property Group, who acted as a dual agent in brokering the deal, representing both Waukesha and the Pawcatuck property’s owner, 99 Mechanic St. Inc.

Barber said Waukesha wanted to move closer to its customer base in southeastern Connecticut and looked at locations between the Rhode Island border and New London before settling on the Pawcatuck site.

The Cherenzia Companies, General Dynamics Information Technology and The Westerly Sun also lease space at 99 Mechanic St., a 41,000-square-foot building originally built for Harris Graphics.

Kevin Bornstein, Waukesha's operations manager, North America, who lives in Stonington, said he is one of seven employees who work in the company’s Pawcatuck offices.

Founded in 1946, Waukesha Bearings has been an operating company of Dover Corp. since 1977. Headquartered in Pewaukee, Wis., Waukesha maintains facilities in the United States, United Kingdom, Mexico, Russia, Brazil, India and China. It has had a presence in southern New England for 25 years.

According to a company statement, it "is a global leader in the design and manufacture of engineered hydrodynamic bearings, magnetic bearing systems and engineered seals for high-performing turbomachinery and rotating equipment in oil and gas, power generation, marine, industrial and general processing markets."

Dover, a diversified global manufacturer headquartered in Downers Grove, Ill., has annual revenues of $8 billion.
