Localizing Bearing for Blooming Mill Save WISG RMB900,000
August 17, after two years experiments and constant improvement of quality, Wuhan Iron & Steel Group Corp.(WISG) Bar Steel Factory has smoothly localized the imported bearing for blooming mills, which not only lowered their purchase cost, but made it more convenient for their production.
For many years, bearings for the Morgan Generation II rolling mills, in Bar Steel Factory, have been supplied by SKF Germany, every set of which costs the factory over RMB70,000 with about a year long delivery time. It posed a negative impact to the company's production cost and process.
To reverse such situation, officials and technicians of Bar Steel Factory carried out extensive market research, finally chose a domestic bearing producer to help them develop substitute bearing for the previously imported one.
In 2004, the bearing were developed and put into trial running. Since then, the factory kept tracing performance of the bearing and demanding further improvement timely. Given the fact that domestic bearings are insufficient in surface and processing precision, the factory asked the bearing supplier to enhance quality and carefully cleaned, dried and lubricated the bearings by themself to avoid bearing erosion caused by moisture.
Using domestic bearings greatly lowered the facotry's purchase cost by RMB900,000 every year. Delivery time also has been reduced to about 3 months. Now they have attempted to substitute bearing for another kind of blooming mills.
