Lignum Vitae wins award for bearings at Stevens Creek hydropower plant

Lignum Vitae North America has been awarded a contract to provide water-lubricated main guide bearings for Unit 2 at the 19-MW Stevens Creek hydropower project.

The Stevens Creek plant -- located on the Savannah River -- is operated by South Carolina Gas & Electric (SCG&E) and houses five generator units that date to the powerhouse's completion in the early 20th Century.

"This is an excellent example of South Carolina Gas & Electric's commitment to environmentally responsible projects," a company release said.

Lignum Vitae, which was recently awarded a similar contract for work at Alabama Power's 180-MW Lay Dam, said its water-lubricated bearings will provide Stevens Creek with "maximum uptime and lower maintenance costs."
