KTR Corporation is pleased to announce successful results after testing several series of couplings for clean room applications.
In cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology and Automation (IPA) it was proven and certified that RADEX®-NC, TOOLFLEX® and the ROTEX® GS series couplings release few particles making them excellent for clean room technology.
Clean room technology refers to a processing environment containing as few particles as possible such as semiconductor production, pharmaceutical agents, optical lenses, laser technology or microsystems technology.
In Fraunhofer IPA, ROTEX GS®, TOOLFLEX® and RADEX®-NC couplings were subjected to emission measurements to determine their suitability for use in clean rooms and classification into one of the clean room classes. It is no coincidence all three series are servo couplings for precision applications since precision drives are used in many clean room applications. Since there are less surfaces moving towards each other, less wear arises on zero-backlash couplings than on drive systems with backlash making them ideal for clean room applications. As a result, all couplings tested reached purity class 7 or 8 according to ISO 14644-1.
This corresponds to GMP class C in the pharmaceutical industry.
Outgassing tests of the ROTEX® GS spider according to the ISO or VDI standard were also conducted and airborne emissions are very low so it can also be used in clean rooms.
