John Crane Acquires Grafton Bearings Manufacturer

A Grafton-based company that makes industrial bearings is being sold for an undisclosed price to an industrial manufacturer based in suburban Chicago.

Orion Corp., which designs and makes bearings for turbine, generator, compress and gear drive applications, is being purchased by John Crane, an industrial seals maker based in Morton Grove, Ill., it was announced Thursday. John Crane is a division of publicly traded London-based Smiths Group Plc, and the sale needs U.S. regulatory approval.

Orion has 270 employees at its facilities in Grafton and Columbus, Neb. John Crane has 20 manufacturing sites and more than 6,000 employees, in 50 countries.
