Jobs to Go at SKF Super Precision Bearings Factory

More than 80 jobs are to go at an engineering company in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire.

The closure of the SKF Super Precision Bearings factory is being blamed on a global decline in orders.

An SKF spokeswoman said it would now be concentrating resources at its factory in Italy instead.

The closure will not affect SKF's larger aero engine bearings unit at Stonehouse, or any of the 200 associated jobs on the site.

The spokesman added: "The decision to close the Super Precision Bearings unit in the UK was taken only after long and careful consideration, but was a necessary step to ensure the long-term future of our business as a whole."

Production at the Super Precision Bearings unit will gradually cease between June and August, with staff being released as production decreases.
