Innovations From INA Linear Technology
Hydrostatic Compact Guide and High Speed Ball Monorail Guidance System
Highlights presented by INA Linear Technology at the EMO and ITMA 2007 trade fairs will include a hydrostatic compact guide for machine tools that achieves the excellent hydrostatic damping characteristics and is manufactured to fit in the same installation space as a conventional profiled rail linear guide, as well as KUVE..-B-HS high-speed profiled rail linear guides that reach speeds of up to 10 meters per second without losses in load carrying capacity or rigidity.
Hydrostatic compact guide
Machine tool vibration results from high dynamic process forces. It can have negative effects on the surface quality of the workpiece and cause tool wear, depending on the dynamic machine characteristics. Passive damping elements (e.g. INA-RUDS) or active dampers can effectively reduce this machine tool vibration and thus help to improve the machining quality and the cutting volume. In any case, this requires the installation of additional elements and masses. Operating an active damper additionally requires complex technical adjustments. As a rule, profiled rail linear guides are used for supporting the axes thanks to their simple installation, standardized design envelope and high performance density and rigidity.
With the development of a standardized hydrostatic compact guide, Schaeffler Group Industrial has now successfully combined the hydrostatic damping characteristics with the compact dimensions of profiled rail linear guides. So, from now on, machine tool manufacturers have the possibility to implement different performance classes in machine tools while adhering to the machine concept. The pre-adjusted and ready to install hydrostatic compact guide can replace without any problems a profiled rail linear guide of the same size due to identical adjacent dimensions and structure clearance. This results in clearly reduced design efforts. The remaining axes can then still be equipped with profiled rail linear guides. In hybrid machines, rolling element guidance systems and hydrostatic compact guides can be combined depending on customer requirements.
High-speed profiled rail linear guides
In order to meet the high demands for speed and acceleration in textile machinery, INA Linear Technology has developed a high-speed profiled rail linear guide. Equipped with conventional steel rolling elements, this can achieve speeds of up to 10 meters per second without losses in load carrying capacity or rigidity. A special plastic material for the recirculation geometry was developed and validated to avoid rolling element tilting and pulse loads in the recirculation geometry. This material was optimized in terms of elongation at rupture, tensile strength and damping properties. Furthermore, the recirculation geometry was modified so that now the rolling elements evenly abut the outer profile. This new profile, in combination with a special plastic material and the robust KUVE..-B design, permits applications with 10 meters per second without losses in load carrying capacity and rigidity. Moreover, the system is outstanding for high functional reliability and crash safety.
