Hong Kong's Machinery Industry Drops in Q3

Hong Kong's domestic exports of the machinery, equipment, apparatus, parts and components industry recorded a year-on-year decrease of 20% in the third quarter of 2008, the Census and Statistics Department said yesterday (Nov 6).

According to the statistics "Domestic export statistic classified by industrial origin for the third quarter of 2008", the value of domestic
exports classified to the machinery, equipment, apparatus, parts and components industry in the third quarter was HK$2337.4 million, down 20% from HK$2923 million recorded in the same period of last year.

The statistics cover industries including textiles; chemicals and chemicals products; consumer electrical and electronic products; machinery, equipment, apparatus, parts and components; basic metals fabricated metal products; and wearing apparel, which together
accounted for around 75% of Hong Kong's total domestic exports.
