Clay blanks destined to become bricks undergo a tough treatment: they are sent to a 1,050 deg C kiln, where they remain for several hours. This immense heat also has an effect on the bearings in the hot air fans, which can heat up to as much as 220 deg C. Recently, a brickwork operator succeeded in increasing his plant's production capacity simply by using a new lubricant, namely the high-temperature long-term grease Barrierta L 55/2 .
* More bricks, less grease - with the product, which was previously used to lubricate the hot-air fans of the kiln, the bearings would break down after approximately three months.
Upon switching over to Barrierta L 55/2, the operators could extend the relubrication interval suggested by the bearing manufacturer seven-fold.
However, the biggest benefit was an increase in production capacity by 5%, which is due to the fact that with the new grease, hotter air can be circulated.
The need for preventive maintenance has also been reduced.
All in all, the operator of the plant now enjoys a smooth running brick production line which is now rarely affected by standstills due to bearing failures.
In addition to the high temperature resistance this long-term grease can also withstand aggressive chemicals and vapours and is compatible with plastics and elastomers making the an extremely versatile lubricant which can be applied to most aggressive industrial, food and pharmaceutical applications.
