H4 unveils Maritex Aquarius Composite Material

H4 Marine launched Maritex Aquarius composite bearing technology at Seaworks in Southampton and this material is now being trialled by navies and commercial builders.

The new grade has been developed to overcome some of the issues with marine growth reducing the life of bearings and shafts.

With seawater-lubricated shaft bearings, this is one of the main factors in system wear.

According to the company, Maritex Aquarius uses a unique structure and the surface finish of advanced polymers to help remove marine growth from the shaft.

The bearing structure also incorporates a surface chemistry that resists marine growth on the bearing itself.

H4 claims that Maritex has performed consistently better than other composites in a range of shaft, rudder and stabiliser applications, often reducing noise and vibration in the system.
