GMN Paul Muller Industrie GmbH & Co. KG is manufacturing scanner motors for more than 10 years.
These are motor-driven spindles which - equipped with an optical system (polygon, pentaprism, ...) -deflect laser light. While initially developed exclusively for the pre-press, GMN scanner motors are used today for all types of image projection.
Starting with precision ball bearings from our own production, GMN has responded to the market requirements and today offers air bearings for speeds up to 160,000 rpm. According to the requirements and customers' wishes the air bearings are designed aerostatically or aerodynamically. The required electronic actuation system developed by GMN achieves high speeds and excellent synchronous stabilities of < 5 ppm.
Air bearings compared with ball bearings have the advantage that there are no intermediate frequencies and therefore density differences in the projection.
Further characteristics of air bearings::
1.High speeds with large masses; polygon, 2.6 kg, up to 30,000 rpm
2.High speed stability without coding disk < 5 ppm
3.Low friction and thus low temperature development
4.Very good friction partner, high operating safety in the case of faulty operation
5.Long life
6.Dynamic air bearings are possible where previously aerostatic bearings were used
7.Low air consumption even with large bearing systems (max. 100 litres/hour at 5 bar pressure)
