Germans certify Vestas multiplier

TUV SUD has completed a design examination and prototype certification of Vestas’ multi-rotor test turbine.

The Munich-headquartered certification outfit said it examined how established wind energy standards could be applied to the concept design.

TUV SUD said it confirmed that the hardware conformed to the standards at each stage of the development process. It issued a prototype certificate once its work was complete.

The turbine features four refurbished V29-225kW nacelles mounted on a support structure and was installed at the Risø test site near Roskilde in Denmark last month.

“By following this approach, we managed to ensure reliable planning in spite of the time constraints and technical challenges involved,” said TUV SUD project manager Alexander Kupzok.

“For us as a certification organisation, innovative systems and concepts provide an opportunity to contribute and demonstrate the full extent of our expertise”.
