FRANTZ Manufacturing Company welcomed a class of 40 freshmen students from area high schools on October 24th as part of the Sauk Valley Region’s first annual Manufacturing Day Event.
Seven local area manufacturers partnered with area educators and organized a Manufacturing Day event to coincide with approximately 1500 such events taking place across the country during the month of October. The purpose of the event was to educate young students about future career opportunities in manufacturing. The theme of the day was “Make it Here!”
The day began with an assembly of nearly 500 freshmen from area high schools at Sterling High School Centennial auditorium. Students saw a multimedia presentation of manufacturing in the Sauk Valley along with presentations about career opportunities, both professional and technical, for men and women, in the manufacturing sector.
Next, ten area manufacturers opened their doors to show students how products are made in the Sauk Valley and then shipped around the globe. Students saw how products are created from raw material through the processes of bending, forming, shaping, coating, finishing, assembling and finally packaging for final shipment to customers.
Finally, all students convened at Sauk Valley Community College where twenty area manufacturers conducted an Expo and further explained products and career opportunities at their firms. A tour of the Sauk Valley Community College Tech programs concluded the day.
Earlier in the month, manufacturers hosted a “Parent’s Night” that celebrated the Sauk Valley region’s manufacturing heritage.
