Fire Hits Miba McConnelsville Plant

Miba Bearings (USA, in the Bearings Group of Miba AG, Austria) suffered a weekend fire in its McConnelsville, Ohio plant.

Reportedly causing extensive damage, the electrical fire was contained in the factory's high speed plating area. Another report indicated water and chemicals may have reacted to start the fire. There were no active shift operations the evening of the fire, and the plating line was shut down.

Miba Bearings US LLC is headquartered in McConnelsville, the former Federal-Mogul Glacier Clevite Heavywall Bearing Division plant it acquired in 2001.

McConnelsville's heavywall bearings are used in applications such as locomotive engines; stationary large compressors, generators and turbines; and off-road earthmoving and mining equipment.

Approximately 275 workers are employed at the plant; no one was injured.
