The new single nut from SKF has changed the hub bearing unit of the 33 Ferrari 458 Italia sport cars. The design target of the single nut was to carry over the successful central nut concept of the previous model, while implementing it on the new suspension of the 458 Italia.
SKF expanded the range of the SKF Hub Knuckle Module, adding the central nut clamping design on the wheel connection side. This particular hub design allows an easy change of the tires during the race, a time saver during the pit stop.
The solution have proven to withstand the tough tracks, which place an intense mechanical stress on the bearings together with lateral accelerations reaching some 1.8 G.
These cars made their debut at Monza national circuit during the opening round of this season's Italian and European Challenge Trofeo Pirelli.
The new car model 458 Italia, which substitutes the Ferrari 430, marks a new epoch in terms of performances, thanks to a state-of-the-art sports car concept.
The Ferrari 458 Italia has got a V8 engine, 4.500 cc. and a maximum power of 570 CV @ 9.000 rpm.
"With these harsh conditions Formula 1 races have on the components in the car, we are forced to challenge our self to the maximum to find new innovative solutions to bring the race cars forward with ultimate speed and safety," says Paolo Andolfi, Manager SKF Racing Unit
SKF Racing has been supporting this project and has supplied more than 200 car set so far.
