What is the first tightening? What is called bearing preload. We explain, we all know that according to the different applications, TIMKEN bearing arrangement with a positive or a negative operational clearance. In most cases, the operational clearance should be positive, that is, TIMKEN bearings at run time, leaving some residual clearance, although there may be a small amount of clearance. Many applications require a negative operational clearance--that is tightening.
So what does preload?
TIMKEN bearing preload first and foremost improve rigidity or running accuracy of the bearing arrangement, followed by preload to reduce noise, improve guidance accuracy of the shaft to compensate wear extending working life, for example in the running of machine tool spindle bearings, pinion bearings in the motor shaft and bearings of small motors, or do the reciprocating motion of the bearing arrangement. In some applications, if TIMKEN bearings are not or only very low load, and run at high speeds, you should preload on the bearing arrangement, for example through the spring. In this case, tightening of the role is to provide minimum bearing loads to prevent rolling element bearing damage caused by slipping.
TIMKEN bearing preload?
Preload according to the different types of bearings, radial, or it can be eccentric. For example, cylindrical roller bearings, due to the reason of its design, can only be imposed by the radial preload, and thrust ball bearings and cylindrical roller thrust bearings can only be imposed by the axial preload. Single row angular contact ball bearings and tapered roller bearings are generally subject to axial preload, and usually with another similar type of bearing pairs in a back-to-back or face-to-face manner. Deep groove ball bearings are normally equally subjected to axial preload, in order to achieve the objective of tightening should be used with a radial internal clearance larger than normal, and the purpose of angular contact ball bearings with a contact angle greater than zero.
