Delayed shipments

TOPIC : Delayed shipments

Recently I had to face a very ridiculous situation due to late shipment. In fact the supplier had handed over the goods to the clearing house to be shipped out. Due to some reason the vessel got unduly delayed than scheduled. This resulted in delayed arrival of goods than required.

The selling season was missed and ended up in lots of problems and chaos. Now goods are at destination and I do not require them for the next two months.

But due to good relations with the supplier I am preparing to clear them. This is surely going to cost me additional interest on investment, additional warehousing charges etc. Now shipping agent demands hell a lot of charges like storage and LCL charges (goods were loaded LCL despite my clear instructions for FCL).

CAN ANYBODY SUGGEST IN THESE CIRCUMSTANCES WHAT SHOULD I DO CAN I CLAIM THESE ADDITIONAL CHARGES FROM MY SUPPLIER WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DELAY CLEARING HOUSE, SHIPPING AGENT, SHIPPER

 Re: Delayed shipments

Though it would be difficult for you to find out who was at fault. As you said that you have a good relationship with your supplier, in such a case it would be better to get the stock liquidated with the help of someone who deals in held up consignments or stocks. You may find people like these either on the net or in your own city.

If you, your supplier and the booking agent, all are sure that the delay is due to the shipping line, you may consider to sue the shipping line with all the documentary proofs. Bt it may cost a further in terms of money and time. Shipping companies have big money power and can fight the court cases for a longer periods with the help of their permanently employed advocates. If you can afford to have fight with them, you may opt for this otherwise simply concentrate on your business and try to sell off your stock even at a lower price. It is said that quot;Something is better than nothingquot;.

If the fault is with the shipping lines, you may bring it to the higher authorities of the shipping lines in writing and try to get the additional fees, interests if any waived off.
