As demands increase on powertrain performance, Dana Holding Corporation (NYSE: DAN) announced that it has developed multi-layer steel (MLS) transmission separator plates capable of withstanding three times the sealing pressures of current products in the light-vehicle market. This technology also allows optimized channel paths and smaller valve bodies through the reduction of fasteners that can interfere with desired flow paths.
Traditional single-layer transmission valve body plates using paper gaskets have limited sealability, resulting in reduced efficiency due to oil leakage, as well as potential warranty concerns due to bond failures, paper erosion, and particle contamination.
By leveraging its industry-leading expertise in MLS cylinder-head gasket technology, Dana developed a new, more durable product, enabling advanced multi-speed, dual clutch, and continuously variable transmissions to operate with improved efficiency, reliability, and overall performance. Through this technology, Dana can substantially increase valve body sealing for high-performance transmissions to more than 1,200 pounds per square inch (PSI) and help automakers eliminate leak paths from them altogether.
"Dana continuously leverages its technical expertise across markets, regions, and customers to develop more advanced technologies
