Dana Corporation Supplying Propshafts, Thermal Technology
Dana Corporation announced today that it is supplying propshafts and auxiliary transmission oil coolers for the new Nissan Rogue crossover vehicle.
"Dana is proud of its affiliation with Nissan, which today ranks as one of our largest automotive customers," said Michael J. Burns, Dana chairman and CEO. "Through collaboration with Nissan engineers, we are able to deliver advanced drivetrain and thermal management technology for the Rogue."
Propshafts
From its drivetrain products portfolio, Dana is providing its Spicer Life Series® propshaft, a class-leading product that improves noise, vibration, and harshness(NVH) performance. The propshaft incorporates staked-and-centered cardan universal joints, which provide enhanced high-speed dynamic performance.
Dana utilizes a pressure-welding process with shielding gas to manufacture the propshafts. Advantages include an extremely quick and highly reproducible process with high-precision joining accuracy.
Thermal Management
In addition, the vehicle will be equipped with Dana's Long® brand auxiliary transmission oil cooler, which contributes to improved durability by keeping the transmission fluid at optimal temperature and helps improve overall fuel economy. The cooler features an integrated thermal bypass valve, which accelerates transmission warm-up from cold-start.
"As a world leader in transmission oil cooling, we have been able to combine multiple functions - oil cooling along with temperature and pressure control - into one cooler module, which increases transmission and packaging efficiency," said Bob Fesenmyer, president of business development for Dana. "We are proud to be growing our business with a customer such as Nissan and on a vehicle segment that is realizing rapid growth in the market."
