Cixi Bearing, a Rising Main Force of China's Bearing Industry (1)

Cixi which belongs to Ningbo city located in the coastal area opposite Shanghai, eastern Zhejiang province. It's one of the coastal open areas approved by State Council.

In 1985 Cixi Miniature Bearing Plant, the first bearing plant in Cixi, was founded. This marked the beginning of Cixi's bearing industry. Thousands of bearing enterprises came into being in the following years. Miniature deep groove bearings made in Cixi were more popular than others, which made Cixi city a "Kingdom of Bearing". There were 1214 bearing enterprises in Cixi till the first half of 2004. Among the bearing enterprises, there were 92 above-medium-enterprise whose total asset had hit RMB 3.119 billion. During the first half of 2004, the 92 enterprises manufactured 646 million sets of bearings; the sum value of these enterprises were RMB 1.283 billion, taking up 6.4% of the sum total of enterprises in Cixi; export value were 83 million, taking up 8.4% of the whole export value of Cixi; brought 22.4 thousand new jobs, taking up 11.5% of the total sum in Cixi.

Character of Development

Bearing industry in Cixi have the following three characters in development:
First, Developing block by block. Bearing industries' development can be regarded as a kind of "fission phenomenon". Second, Developing based on export. Very profitable export business made the competition among bearing industries more fierce, in order to adapt to the competition, enterprises have to develop. So a positive circumstance has been created. Third, Technical reform facilitate development. To avoid comepition from bearing of low quality, bearing industries in Cixi focused on top grade goods. They imported advanced equipment and technology, automatized production, enhanced the quality of their goods by all means. Nowaday, they have some achievement. For example, Cixing Bearing Co.,Ltd, has become the contract component supplier of Siemens, Benz, GE, Electrolux and other World Top 500 enterprises.
