Chinese Machinery Industry Achieves New Milestone
Continuing its fast growth the Chinese machinery industry reached new milestone in 2007.
As forecast by the China Machinery Industry Federation (CMIF) on January 21, the gross output value of the country's machinery industry would, for the very first time, exceed RMB7 trillion in
2007, representing a growth of close to 32% from a year ago.
This means that by 2007, the Chinese machinery industry would have grown at a pace of above 20% a year for the most recent five years in a row.
In 2007, China supplied more than 80% of machinery it needed, the CMIF added.
Earlier statistics announced by the CMIF revealed that in the first 11 months of 2007, China produced a total of RMB6.54 trillion worth of machinery of all kinds, up 31.86% year-on-year.
Exports, imports and profits also rise
Regarding foreign trade, in the first 11 months, the value of machinery exports reached US$174.81 billion, an increase of 40.74% from the corresponding period last year, according to Chinese Customs statistics. Meanwhile, the vale of machinery imports grew by 20.07% to US$152.30 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of US$22.50 billion.
The CMIF statistics revealed in the first 11 months of 2007, profits rose by RMB125.68 million, reaching RMB388.67 million, compared to the figure last year.
2008: another year of 20% growth
Remarking that China had already possessed the capability to build technologically advanced machine tools on its own, the CMIF forecast that the Chinese machinery industry would continue to grow at a pace of about 20% for another year--the sixth straight year--in 2008, with vehicle output hitting the 10 million unit milestone.
